Saving New Orleans?

First off, I believe it is right for the government to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. I also believe the help should come with one condition. We, the people, agree to help victims to rebuild their homes and lives as long as that somewhere is not below sea level. For this to happen New Orleans needs to be abandoned or moved somewhere above sea level.

The flooding we are seeing is not just the result of Katrina, but the result of gravity. In most places where flooding occurs the water runs down hill into streams and eventually away from flooded areas. In New Orleans the flooding has nowhere to go. The city resides at the bottom of a bowl below anywhere water can run. Personally, I would have left a long time ago. When you have to pump water out daily to keep the city from flooding what is going to happen when a real flood situation occurs? We are seeing the answer on television. If we waste money rebuilding on the same location, we are only inviting the same disaster to happen over and over again.

It is time for a new New Orleans. Some place above sea level.

Evil Corporations

How can this be? Fortune 500 Companies spending millions to help victims of hurricane Katrina. I thought these big companies were evil. That they only cared about profits and screwing the little guy. I don't understand how this is possible.

Global Warming Causes Katrina? Yeah right!

Our friendly wackos on the left are at it again. This time they are blaming global warming and Bush's lax environment policies for Hurricane Katrina.

First we have this bit of stupidity from the German papers.

Frankfurter Rundschau, a paper friendly with the Social Democrats, to bash US President George W. Bush's environmental laxity. He begins by likening the photos and videos of the hurricane stricken areas to scenes from a Roland Emmerich sci-fi film and insists that global warming and climate change are making it ever more likely that storms and floods will plague America and Europe.

We also find the same banality here in the states with Robert F Kennedy Jrwriting the same shrill warnings. He claims the right is reaping the seeds we have sown.

Now we are all learning what its like to reap the whirlwind of fossil fuel dependence which Barbour and his cronies have encouraged. Our destructive addiction has given us a catastrophic war in the Middle East and--now--Katrina is giving our nation a glimpse of the climate chaos we are bequeathing our children.

Now let's turn to a climatologist who actually studies hurricanes to get the actual information about the apparent increase in the number of hurricanes.

Because hurricanes form over warm ocean water, it is easy to assume that the recent rise in their number and ferocity is because of global warming.

But that is not the case, scientists say. Instead, the severity of hurricane seasons changes with cycles of temperatures of several decades in the Atlantic Ocean. The recent onslaught "is very much natural," said William M. Gray, a professor of atmospheric science at Colorado State University who issues forecasts for the hurricane season.

From 1970 to 1994, the Atlantic was relatively quiet, with no more than three major hurricanes in any year and none at all in three of those years. Cooler water in the North Atlantic strengthened wind shear, which tends to tear storms apart before they turn into hurricanes.

In 1995, hurricane patterns reverted to the active mode of the 1950's and 60's. From 1995 to 2003, 32 major hurricanes, with sustained winds of 111 miles per hour or greater, stormed across the Atlantic. It was chance, Dr. Gray said, that only three of them struck the United States at full strength.

Historically, the rate has been 1 in 3.

Then last year, three major hurricanes, half of the six that formed during the season, hit the United States. A fourth, Frances, weakened before striking Florida.

"We were very lucky in that eight-year period, and the luck just ran out," Dr. Gray said.

Oops, I hate it when real science gets in the way of a good scare story or a chance to blame Bush.

PC - 2005 NCAA Champions

The NCAA has finally been overwhelmed by the politically correct crowd. The NCAA executive committee ruled to ban the use of American Indian mascots by college teams during postseason tournaments. The won't even make exceptions for teams like Florida State who have the blessing of the local Seminole tribe.

Nicknames or mascots deemed "hostile or abusive" would not be allowed on team uniforms or other clothing beginning with any NCAA tournament after Feb. 1, said Harrison, the University of Hartford's president.

"What each institution decides to do is really its own business" outside NCAA championship events, Harrison said.

"What we are trying to say is that we find these to be unacceptable for NCAA championship competition," headded.

Thankfully, at least one university, Florida State, is firing back at them with both guns.

Florida State President T.K. Wetherell blasted the NCAA and threatened legal action on Friday, the Tampa Tribune reported.

"Florida State University is stunned at the complete lack of appreciation for cultural diversity shown by the National Collegiate Athletic Association's executive committee. ... That the NCAA would now label our close bond with the Seminole Tribe of Florida as culturally 'hostile and abusive' is both outrageous and insulting," Wetherell said Friday in a statement.

At least someone is fighting PC run amok. Otherwise we will be going down the slippery slope of banning everything that could possibly be the least bit offensive. Of course now that I think about it, I do find political correctness offensive. Not only is the practice offensive, but it is hostile and abusive to its victims. Maybe I can propose to the NCAA executive committee a ban on PC. Now that would be a worth while proposal.

More from Captain Ahab's Inquisition

The inquisition put on by Captain Ahab Stumbo's crackpot legal team has struck gold. Fools gold. They landed 21 felony counts against former Transportation Cabinet commissioner Dan Druen. Of course none of theses counts involve merit system violations. All of them are due this fool's alleged attempts to cover up for the investigation.

I bet Ahab's team is proud of taking Dan out to the woodshed because he attempted to cover up misdemeanor offenses. What an embarrassment to have an AG who insists on wasting time grandstanding on this case while other serious criminal investigations go fallow.

Unfortunately, we have two more years of Ahab's irresponsibleness to look forward to until we have the opportunity to sweep him overboard in the next election cycle.

NY ACLU to Terrorists: We want to make your job easier!

The New York chapter of the ACLU filed suit against the city to keep police from searching bags of passengers using the subway. The ACLU is claiming that the search policy violates the constitutional right of equal protection which prohibits against unlawful searches. In addition they argue that the measure could possibly lead to racial profiling even though the order is to search randomly.

First, this lawsuit is bogus. Since the searches are random no constitutional rights are lost. This is no different than having road blocks set up to catch drunken drivers.

Secondly and more importantly we are talking about stopping a terrorist attack on our subway systems. Don't these people get it. The terrorists don't give a whit about the racial makeup of who they blow up as long as they kill Americans.

I guess these leftists feel that racial profiling is more dangerous than a radical with a bomb. This is asinine and complete lunacy in face of the attacks in London and the threats by al-Qaeda today. But who ever said that liberals were rational. I am sure the terrorists will happily back this lawsuit which would make their job much easier. Unbelievable!

What the Radical Islamists Really Want

I came across a chilling sermon by Radical Sheik Ibrahim Mudeiris which was aired on Palestinian television. Much of the speech rambled on comparing Jews to viruses and such. But near the end of the sermon, Mudeiris delivered a most instructive message.

We have ruled the world before, and by Allah, the day will come when we will rule the entire world again. The day will come when we will rule America. The day will come when we will rule Britain and the entire world – except for the Jews. The Jews will not enjoy a life of tranquility under our rule, because they are treacherous by nature, as they have been throughout history. The day will come when everything will be relieved of the Jews - even the stones and trees which were harmed by them. Listen to the Prophet Muhammad, who tells you about the evil end that awaits Jews. The stones and trees will want the Muslims to finish off every Jew.

That quote clearly outlines the thinking of most radical Muslims including the terrorists who randomly murder innocent people. Their goal is quite clear. They desire nothing less than the annihilation of their enemies under the repressive rule of the Islamic fascism.

People who think we are provoking the terrorists by invading Iraq and Afghanistan need to wake up! These terrorists are people who can not be reasoned with. They can not be negotiated with. They can not be compromised with. There is only two things we can do to stop their teachings of hate, terror, and barbarism.

  1. Eliminate them
  2. Teach those who are the target of such teachings the meaning of freedom and capitalism. Give them a chance to determine their own way. Their own life. Instruct them how they can be a shining light upon the hill for peace in the region. They will undoubtedly take up the challenge.

Both of these tasks are being accomplished by our incursions into Iraq and Afghanistan. We are both eliminating terrorists and helping to teach these people the true meaning of liberty. The results of which can already be seen in the early stages of the new Iraqi government. The are developing a constitution that includes all Iraqis. A constitution that will include the freedom of self determination and balance between the competing religions. The terrorists are losing this battle and are becoming more desperate in their means. Even with the increased attacks, the Iraqi police continues to get stronger and better trained every day. It is only a matter of time before the insurgency is ripped apart by the winds of freedom.

Remember we didn't invade either Afghanistan or Iraq before 9/11. They hit us then not because we occupied Iraq, but because we are a nation that loves freedom. Freedom is anathema to the Islamic fascists dreams of world rule. Never forget it!

Foul Pollution Emanating from the Courier-Journal

No, this is not an article about the left wing propaganda that oozes from the Courier. No this is about the Courier Journal actually polluting our environment.

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District has fined The Courier-Journal $91,000, alleging that the newspaper failed to obtain a required air pollution permit for its new printing facility and failed to keep proper records.

The agency also is asking the newspaper to pay $30,000 for alleged improper removal of asbestos in the basement of the newspaper's building at 525 W. Broadway in November 2002.

What I love is listening to the Courier Journal talk about the unfairness of the situation.
"The Courier-Journal disagrees with the spirit of the notice of violation," he said, adding that newspaper managers have been working with air pollution district staff on the permit since before construction on the press facility began.

Yet when other businesses run afoul of government's overreaching bureaucracy, especially environmental regulations, the Courier Journal is the first to express outrage at the indecency and greed of capitalism and big business. They opine on the need for greater government control over business operations. Didn't the Courier whine just last year about shutting down the totally unnecessary vehicle emissions test (VET). Back then they claimed that our environmental laws were not going far enough to protect our community. They called for even more draconian laws, yet ironically they themselves can't even abide by the current standards.

Where is the outrage? I call for an investigation. Maybe we should shut the Courier Journal down until they prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have fixed the problems. It is for the good of the people, right? Or maybe this is just another example of liberal double standards. Kinda like liberal radio Air America stealing from kids and the elderly to fund their ventures. As long as the cause is just the means don't matter. Oh wait, liberals are better people than us conservatives. I keep forgetting that.
