Miller's Campaign
It appears that the Miller campaign has been hard at work raising funds the last two months. They have raised over $800,000 and have around $450,000 cash on hand for the final stretch run.
Democratic candidate for governor Jonathan Miller, the state treasurer, voluntarily disclosed that he has raised more than $800,000 with less than 60 days to go before the party's May 22 primary.
The campaign's news release also said Miller has more than $450,000 left after expenditures, meaning he has spent nearly $350,000.
I originally believed tat Miller wouldn't be able to raise the funds to be competitive in the primary. I have to give him credit for raising the minimum amount of money to be a contender in the primary.
While $450,000 might sound like a lot of money it isn't much when you have to pay for television and radio advertisements in multiple markets, mailers, phone banks, yard signs, bumper stickers, and paid staff. Especially when you have others in the race like Lunsford who will spend a couple of million in the primary.
It will be interesting to see if Miller can translate his meager budget into a top two finish in the primary. Of course if he does, he might have trouble raising the money to be competitive in the run off in June.
