Attacks on McConnell Already Starting Part 3

As we already know, the Sunlight Foundation has posted a billboard on Interstate 65 - "What's McConnell Hiding?". Well it looks like the local papers have gotten into the act and have used SB 232 as an attempt to smear McConnell.

Let's start with the Lexington Herald.

These are games elected officials are playing with information that citizens need to evaluate government operations, candidates and officeholders.

And of course we can't forget the Courier

What's clear, once again, is that Sen. McConnell says one thing and does another. He makes not only Kentucky but the Senate itself look bad.

The way the liberals are whining, you would think that this is a crucial bill for a more open government? But when you read the details of the bill you learn it does nothing to open up government. Yes, nothing! All it does it speed up the process that information which is already made public gets distributed. That is it! Don't believe me, read the bill's description.

3/28/2007--Reported to Senate amended. Senate Campaign Disclosure Parity Act - Amends the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to require Senate candidates to file election-related designations, statements, and reports in electronic form.

Requires the Secretary of the Senate to forward a copy of any electronically filed designation, statement, or report to the Federal Election Commission within one working day (instead of the current two working days) after receiving it.

While it might make the process more efficient, it does nothing to make government "more open". Yet, the liberals at the Sunlight Foundation are using it as a platform to attack McConnell. And the willing accomplices at the Courier and the Herald are trying to turn a mountain out of a mole hill. All in the hopes of seeing McConnell defeated in 2008.
