Signifigance Of Tea Parties

Ever wonder why the right never stages protests? The left is always protesting. They are protesting  KFC for making chicken. They are protesting the G-8 summit. They are protesting some civil right issue. They are protesting the war. Every week it is a new protest. Yet the right never seems to have protests.

I believe the reason for the lack of passion on the right is the fact that most of us are living our lives. We are working jobs, raising families, attending church, and volunteering in local charitable organizations. We are too busy in our daily lives to protest every week. We sigh about government stupidity and go on with our lives. This mentality and work ethic is the reason the center right of this country has been dubbed the silent majority.

Yesterday something different happened. The silent majority began to stir and have its voice heard. Hundreds and thousands gathered across Kentucky and the rest of the nation to speak out against the tyranny of the state. It was a real grass root movement that wasn't lead by some political party or organization. The whole day was astonishing. Members of the silent majority organized through the Internet to vocalize their displeasure. There was real anger at the government's drift towards statism. There was anger at taxation. There was anger at out of control spending. There was anger at the crushing debt being run up by those in Washington.

For me these tea parties are a symbol of hope. There IS a point were government intrussion in our lives becomes too great. A point where people who were once silent begin to rise up and make their voices heard. That we in this country who have been silent for too long truly do love liberty and are willing stand up and fight to defend that right. Maybe this is the spark that this country needs to return to its roots. To once again treasure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. A country free from the tyranny of government. At least that is my hope.
