Rand Paul Goes Overboard In Criticism Of Grayson

Rand Paul today called out his rivals for not attending a forum at UK.

Paul, a Bowling Green eye surgeon, accused Secretary of State Trey Grayson, Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo and Attorney General Jack Conway of “elitism and arrogance” for not appearing at the event that attracted more than 100 people.

He said he thought Grayson, a fellow Republican, may be “too busy reviewing the latest poll results” to attend the forum...

....He called it unfortunate that the three elected officials “couldn’t drive the 20 or so miles from Frankfort to be at the forum” while he drove more than 100 miles from Bowling Green.

“It’s a disservice to the voters they are not here,” he said. “It should shame all three of them. I guess it is part of their elitism and arrogance.”

Yeah, they are "arrogant" because they didn't attend a single forum 7 MONTHS before the election. Grayson's response was simple.
Grayson’s campaign manager, Nate Hodson, said Grayson was in Frankfort Wednesday “performing his duties as secretary of state” on the first day of candidate filings for next year’s political races.
You see, Grayson has actually been elected to state office. His job is to serve the people. Taking a cheap shot at him because he is doing his job, especially 7 MONTHS before the election goes a bit overboard. This line of attack is effective a month or two before an election when people are actually paying attention. Not today. Today it just sounds shrill and amateurish. Now that Paul has won a seat at the table due to his fund raising capacity, he needs to act like a real candidate instead of some whiny outsider candidate who gets 2 percent of the vote.

Latest Poll: Rand Paul and Mongiardo Lead Respective Primaries

The latest poll numbers are in and they results are interesting. On the Republican side Rand Paul has taken a small lead over Grayson 35%-32%. Undecideds and others garnered 34% of the poll. Since undecided / other is such a huge percentage of the poll responders we can tell that neither of the candidates have much name recognition among the electorate. This has to be a bit depressing for Grayson who has been labeled the up and coming star of the KY GOP. At the same time, I have to give the Paul team some props for turning what should have been an easy Grayson victory into a toss up race. With the money being roughly equal, the race will be decided by the candidates and their strategies. This should be a fascinating race to watch.

On the Democratic side, Mongiardo has surprisingly pulled away from Conway 39-28.  The Democrats like the Republicans have 34% of the electorate preferring another candidate or are undecided. That tells me we have two candidates without tremendous name recognition. But what is interesting is the size of Mongiardo's lead in this snap shot. I am guessing the Mongiardo tape leaks may have backfired and hurt Conway more than the Mongiardo. It will be interesting to see future polls to see if Mongiardo maintains this lead or if this poll was just a statistical anomoly.

The polls do tell us one thing for certain about next May. With so many undecideds to fight over, both sides of the isle are going to  have lively showdowns.
