Grayson's Turn

Yesterday, I questioned Paul's decision to lead with an advertisement that brings his weaknesses to the front of the news cycle. Today, I have to question Grayson's decision last week to highlight endorsements by 27 state legislators. If anything defines 2010, it is peoples anger at the political class. Anger at the government waste. Anger at the corruption. Anger at the outrageous spending. Anger at the government intrusion in their lives. With all of the anti-political class sentiment in the country, why would you highlight the support of the political class?

Such a move makes Grayson look like an insider in the year of the outsider. The funny thing is that Grayson didn't have to assume the mantle of "party insider". Realistically, he has only been on the scene for a few years. He is a protege of Bunning. Not exactly a favorite of the party since he was forced out of the race. He could have positioned himself as the heir to Bunning as a staunch conservative outside the party elite. Instead, he has ceded the outsider status to Rand Paul and positioned himself as the ultimate insider. I just don't understand the positioning.
