Happy Birthday America

The idea that is the United States of America was born 232 years ago. An idea that was so radical and treasonous at the time that it started a war. A revolutionary war.

An idea that was so powerful that it lead a rag tag bunch of colonialists to defy their king. To fight a war. To give the strength necessary to persist during dark times.

It was an idea that impassioned a nation to grow from humble roots to being the most powerful nation in the world. It was an idea that has made that nation a beacon of light in a world filled to often with darkness.

What was this radical idea? It was the idea that all men are created equal. That all man had the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is the American idea. One that even with our political bickering still remains powerful today.

Where else can a boy of limited financial means create a software company that propelled him to be one of the world's richest men. Where else can a black boy from Hawaii or a military soldier's son from Arizona grow up to win both parties nomination to be president. Where else can one go and find a people as mobile? A people with more wealth? A people with more opportunity? A people with more freedom?

Yes, America is the greatest country in the world. And as long as the idea of freedom continues to burn brightly in America, it will continue to be that shinning city on the hill.

Happy birthday America!

Back From Two Week Haitus

The summer time is always the hardest time for me to blog. I would quite frankly rather be outside. The long days make it harder for me to find time to comment. Of course I never meant to disappear for two weeks. I imagine I will be posting more frequently in the coming weeks.

Of course it helps to be couch stricken for two weeks while recovering from surgery. Why did I have a surgery? Well it is a long story. The gist of it is that I underwent a surgery in December to remove a polinodial cyst. For those who don't know, it is a cyst that forms on the tailbone making sitting uncomfortable and at times painful. The procedure was not supposed to be a big deal. I was supposed to recover from it in two to four weeks.

Fast forward six months and it still hadn't healed. And it is amazing how much more difficult life is when you have trouble sitting. (If you don't believe me spend a day trying not to sit up straight) Thus I had to go back under the knife to see what was prohibiting my it from healing. It turns out there was a cavity under my wound which still hadn't healed. Fortunately it wasn't infected as my surgeon feared. Therefore he just stitched me up and now I am sitting on my couching waiting for it to heal.

The recovery period is going to kill me. I don't know how I am going to sit around doing nothing for two weeks in the heart of the summer, but I guess it is a small price to pay to be able to sit again.

Back To Work

My postings over the last week have been non existant. Mostly due to an incredible amount of work that had piled up on me. Of course it would happen on a week where lots of stuff happened.

Sigh.

Oh well, I'm going to try to catch this blog up from the last week by hitting some of the highlights from last week and merging them into posts for this week.

Happy New Year

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

My New Year's resolution is to be more consistent on my postings. Hopefully, this resolution will last longer than many other ones I have made throughout the years.

Looking back, 2007 was a crappy year for conservative politics and doesn't need to be rehashed. Hopefully 2008 will prove to be a much better year. At the very least it should be more entertaining. With the 2008 presidential elecitions and the first year of the Beshear administration we should have plenty of topics upon which to write.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I want to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. Enjoy your time with family and friends! Oh yeah and those extra days off from work. Just don't eat too much food, shop too long, or watch too much football. OK, I know that is just wishful thinking. Overindulgence is inevitable. But at least we get a couple of days off from work.

Happy Thanksgiving!
